01.45 Nigel Farage has just said on the BBC that he wished David Cameron shared Dan Hannan's outlook on the EU. Dan Hannan said he wished David Cameron shared Dan Hannan's views on the EU. The Talking Clock wished David Cameron shared Dan Hannan's views on the EU. Nigel Farage and Dan Hannan are both great, straightforward politicians who this blog supports very highly.
01.40 At the moment, Labour have just 14% of the vote. Bye bye Gordon or bye bye Labour forever. Now is the moment they must choose their destiny.
01.30 Dan Hannan has done it again. In his post vote speech, he chose not to invoke Cromwell. Instead, he used a Dr. Seuss poem to great effect. Got to love Dan Hannan. The man is constantly genius.
Watch this for Dan's acceptance speech

00.00 The Talking Clock thinks... the Welsh defeat of Labour should galvanise the anti-Brown 'plotters' like nothing else. The BNP victory should make even the LibDems shut up about proportional representation.
23.45 Wales Result BNP 37114, Christian Party 13037, Conservative 145193, Jury Team 3793, LibDem 73082, No2EU 8600, PC 126702, Socialist Labour 12402, Green 38160, Labour 138852, UKIP 87585 Seats Conservative 1, PC 1, Labour 1, UKIP 1 UKIP gain seat from Labour - Conservatives win popular vote for first time in decades in Wales - Labour lose 12% of their vote share
23.35 Nick Robinson on the BBC is pointing out that all three main parties were co-operating behind the scenes to keep the BNP out and the result from the Yorkshire and Humber region is all the more incredible in light of that. There may be more success for the BNP still to come tonight. Sky are interviewing Nick Griffin. Fair play to them for not bowing to the 'no platform' policy.
23.30 Yorkshire and Humber Result Conservative 2, UKIP 1, Labour 1, LibDem 1, BNP 1
23.25 East of England Result Conservatives 3 seats, UKIP 2, LibDem 1, Labour 1
23.10 William Hague states categorically that the Tories "disagree fundamentally" with UKIP's position of withdrawal from the EU. Remember that at General Election time, potential Conservative voters...
23.05 William Hague is pointing out on Sky that Labour's starting position from the last European elections was their worst share of the vote since the First World War, so he says if Labour are down on that...
22.30 LibDem Simon Hughes says he reckons Labour have slumped to fifth in Outer London boroughs, but they may have held up in Inner London.
22.25 Glenys Kinnock explictly states that she does not have the right to sit in Cabinet at any time and she is in exactly the same position in regard to the Cabinet as Caroline Flint was in. Except for being 'window dressing'. We won't comment on the latter.
22.10 Something strange is going on. Glenys Kinnock is on Sky News saying that she is not a Minister of State, she will not be a member of the Cabinet but she will be doing the Minister for Europe job vacated by Caroline Flint. Confused? Fraser Nelson says she will hang on in Brussels and see out her term there to make sure she gets her golden handshake. Mark Francois MP, her Conservative shadow, is angry and in disbelief.
21.55 Rumours sweeping the Welsh count are that the Conservatives might have won the popular vote! Can you believe it? Peter Kelner of YouGov has phoned in to the BBC to strongly object to Harriet Harperson's comments.
21.45 Harriet Harperson says a YouGov poll of Labour members saying Gormless should go should be ignored because, she implied, YouGov is rather crap. Oooh err...
21.40 NORTH EAST REGION RESULT BNP 52700, Christian Party 7263, Conservative 116911, English Democrats 13007, Jury Team 2904, LibDems 103644, No2EU 8066, Libertas 3010, Socialist Labour 10000, Green 34081, Labour 147338, UKIP 90700.
Seats Labour 1 Conservative 1 LibDem 1
21.35 Glyn Ford, Labour's only sitting MEP in the South West region is nervous and tells the BBC that it's looking like UKIP have done very well in the region. Beeb reporting 30% for UKIP in Christchurch, just behind the Tories. UKIP overtake Labour in North Lincolnshire.
21.30 Harriet Harperson is trying to convince Nick Robinson on the BBC that tonight is all about angry voters and expenses claims. Saw that one coming, huh?
21.15 Trouble at t'mill outside Manchester count with anti-democratic thugs protesting against the BNP. Police have had to be called in to deal with it. Who are the mindless troublemakers here?
19.45 Nigel Farage has just told the BBC that he is concerned about "tens of thousands" of ballot papers in the South East which were folded making it seem - UKIP claim - that the party was not on the ballot paper, thus costing them votes. UKIP had talked about a legal challenge in this regard as early as Thursday morning.
19.40 Just heard Tony Benn interviewed by Iain Dale. The Talking Clock thought the respected Mr. Benn spoke some of the most sense we've heard from a politician in a long time. The Labour Party - when they kick out the Brownite imposters - would do themselves some good listening to him.
19.25 Congratulations to Iain Dale who, on his PlayRadioUK show, has just interviewed BNP leader Nick Griffin. The Talking Clock does not support the BNP, but we do support their right to express their opinions in a democracy. Going further, when the mainstream parties and mainstream media see the number of votes the BNP get, they might be well served to deliberate what it is that their supporters were voting for. The more the views of their supporters are ignored, the more angry and isolated-feeling they will become and ergo more votes the BNP will get. Simple.
19.00 A Euronews exit poll has UKIP on 18%, beating Labour which it has on 16%. The Conservatives do best but not brilliantly on 26%. Oddly, no figure is given for the LibDems so we don't have any indication yet as to whether Labour might be beaten into fourth place. Remember though, this is just an exit poll.
18.26 Nigel Farage tells Iain Dale that people who have voted UKIP have voted in favour of their policies and that 'protest' votes are the absentees - those who couldn't be bothered to vote. Farage was asked about his vow to resign if he gets less than ten UKIP MEPs. He said: "If I get nine, I'm gone. If I get twenty, Gordon Brown is gone".
