Paxo gives Hague a good stuffing
And so it was on tonight's Newsnight. William Hague was Paxman's unwitting victim.
We felt for Hague a little bit. We like him.. a little bit. Partly his stance on the EU, partly his connection with Have I Got News For You.
But Paxo did make him look silly.
Paxo wanted to know what the Tories meant by "we will not matters rest there" in respect of "what if" the Lisbon Treaty is in effect by the time the Conservatives win a General Election.
Time and time again Paxman asked, time and time again William Hague failed to answer. Probably not his fault. Probably keeping the party line.
But we want to know what the Tories will do in that circumstance. We've had three parties promise us a referendum in unison before... and yet we weren't given one. So now we want answers. No more LibLabCon. Fair enough?
Then the topic moved on to Conservative Party deputy Chairman Lord Ashcroft.
Paxman wanted to know if Ashcroft - complete with his peerage - was now registered as a UK resident for tax purposes.
William Hague gave an answer that was vague.
Paxo tried again. And again. And again. And every time, Hague looked vaguer and vaguer... looking dodgier and dodgier with every repeat question dodged.
Oh dear, William. Paxo gave you a damn good stuffing.
