Sunday Paper Review: 1st November 2009

The Independent on Sunday reports that the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, is backing David Miliband for the Lisbon Treaty soon-to-be-created Foreign Minister role. Barroso can have him. We only wish he'd have gone sooner. But, of course, Miliband had to stay here long enough to make sure we didn't get a referendum on the treaty that cedes British sovereignty - and looks set to net him a nice cushy earner. Nice to see betrayal of the nation state doesn't go unrecognised in the undemocratic EU. Imagine... we'll kick Miliband and his totalitarian party out - and then he'll still be there, more powerful than ever. Wonder if they'll build a burgundy palace for him to dictate over us from? Go on Miliband. Go for it. Then get out of the country you deceived and don't come back.

There's an interesting article in The Observer on the dilemmas and difficult choices ahead for David Cameron and his Conservatives over all things European Empire. It is certainly going to be an interesting road. If the Czech President signs the Lisbon Treaty, Cameron and the Conservatives will be forced to show their hand - and UKIP should gain from it quite nicely.

Meanwhile, the Shadow Foreign Secretary - William Hague - writes a lengthy criticism of David Miliband in the Mail on Sunday. Which is an instance of preaching to the converted. The main theme of the article which centres on Poland's Michal Kaminiski is summed up in the line: "No Foreign Secretary should make accusations of extremism without properly examining the evidence." Which leads us neatly into the next story of interest...

At some point, we the people will have to reclaim an awfully large number of words that have been corrupted by those currently in power. Here we go again - bang on form. This time, it's the Chief Medicial Officer who - the Sunday Times reports - has decided that anyone with an opinion that differs from the official proclamation on swine flu vaccines is an "extremist". Yeah, and a photographer is a "terrorist", those opposed to Obama's policies are "racist", and those who believe in autumn, winter, summer and spring are "climate change deniers". Anyone starting to see through that kind of language yet? Seems there will be a great number of "extremists" soon, only the same newspaper reports that plans are afoot for the mass vaccination of Britain's 10-18 year olds. What if any of us object? Martial law..?

The Sunday Telegraph reports that three new banks will appear on the High Street as the big banks are to be broken up after the disasters of recent times. One of the names that will 'appear' is... the TSB. Remember when the TSB was a bank in it's own right? Whatever next? UK call centres? Being able to telephone your own branch..?

There'll be no dodgy English novelty song to accompany our national side at next year's footie World Cup after plans for the usual official England team song have been scrapped - according to the News of the World. So, no 'Vindaloo', no 'Three Lions'... but there's always The Great Escape to fall back on...

And we couldn't end the newspaper review without a story on the European Empire now, could we? Did you get the impression we were opposed to the European Empire, yet? Anyway, just to drive the message home... the Sunday Express splashes it's front page with news of a plan which the European Empire has which will result in British consumers no longer having the right to return shoddy goods back to where we bought them from for a refund. The European Empire obviously expects us to put up with any old crap. That sounds about right...
