BBC Question Time, 3rd December 2009
Margaret Beckett (ZaNuLiebour) said that "somebody, somewhere is trying to force the Government hand" over allowing huge banker bonuses and said she felt if the board of a bank threatened to resign, "then goodbye". Attacked the LibDems on the economy, saying their figures do not and have never added up. Sounded weak and clueless on Afghanistan. Said she thought the digs on Conservatives and Eton were "funny". Started talking about the Swiss referendum on minarets and dismissing referenda for needing over-simplified questions... at which point Dumblebee raised the issue of a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty.
Our Rating: For somebody who once had so much political clout, she failed to convince this blogger that she had much grasp of the political questions posed. If she did, she failed in her ability to communicate her grasp of the issues. 3/12
Andrew Lansley (Conservative) said we have put an awful lot of money into the banks and that there should be an end to big cash bonuses. Said Obama's announcement on Afghanistan was a signal to the people of the country that the troop surge was not to be a permanent occupying force. Said that ZaNuLiebour's attacks on the Conservatives over class were somewhat ironic seeing as Mandelson recently went pheasant shooting on the Rothschild estate.
Our Rating: Seemed to us to be too much of a BluLabour member of the Conservatives. All about projecting an image of "we're all cuddly and compassionate" now - and too little time giving us any kind of vision for how his party might reverse the hell that ZaNuLiebour have created in their twelve years of abusing power. 5/12
Vince Cable (GlibDumDums) is quite liked by many over his economic considerations. In the current issue over RBS and bonuses, he said the Government should just accept the resignations of directors and that bankers are playing a dangerous game. Said that the Allies and the Afghan government will, at some point, have to engage politically with moderate opponents in Afghanistan. Dismissed Labour's "deathbed" attack on the Conservatives over class was "pathetic".
Our Rating: It's difficult to dislike Vince Cable. Though, at the same token, he also fails to deliver any hope. What does he have to say about true liberalism? Why are those of us on the right more liberal than the leftists? What does he have to say about democracy? They're supposedly Liberal Democrats - what do they have to say on liberalism or democracy? Nothing of interest. 5/12
Clive Anderson (broadcaster and writer) spoke a load of nonsensical twaddle in response to the opening question on bank bonuses before eventually concluding they should stop "taking the Mick". Questioned Obama's abilities as a military strategist and described the allied role in Afghanistan as a "slow moving car crash of a disaster". Made a good quip on a pointless question about Tiger Woods, saying he felt sorry for Gillette.
Our Rating: Had very little inspiring to say on political issues, but he made one or two light-hearted gags which raised a smile. 5/12
Kirstie Allsopp (TV presenter) who we've never heard of before started off impressing by tackling Vince Cable over his party's proposed 'mansion tax'.
Our Rating: About a sentence on each of the questions. She sounds like she's quite bright. Just haven't a clue who she is or why we should care about her opinions. 5/12
Towards the end of the show, a young Muslim man spoke out on the issue of divided communities and a failing of integration. Very interesting observations and quite refreshing to hear. Caught the leftists completely off-guard.
