European Court: British police 'stop and search' is illegal

We hate everything about the European Union... apart from the European Court of Human Rights, which should be seen quite seperately.

First it declared Britain's - or more precisely New Labour's - harvesting of people's DNA is illegal.

And breaking news... it has declared that the 'terror law' power to stop and search people without good grounds for suspicion is also... illegal!

Yay!

We hate the European Union.

But we have to praise the European Court of Human Rights.

Oh, and just before we look too party political... we have previously pointed out that the Conservative party's website says they want to give police more stop and search powers - one of the reasons we could never vote for them.

They'll have to drop that now. Ha ha!

Did you know that a criminal trial has now commenced in which the defendants are not being judged by a jury of their peers? Obviously, it would be wrong to talk about the case itself. But for 800 years, any member of the public accused of a crime has had some reassurance that, at least, it is a jury of their peers who will decide what the evidence in a case indicates.

And New Labour have thrown away that 800 year old principle? By act of statute? Even though it's a fundamental principle of British common law..?

Come the election and the ridding ourselves of New Labour, we need to make sure that's yet another one of their actions that gets reversed.
