Wootton Bassett: 600,000 stand up to be counted

The Facebook group set up to oppose a proposed march through Wootton Bassett by an Islamic extremist group has just passed the 600,000 member mark - a phenomenal response by any gauge.

It must be remembered that those 600,000 represent only those members of the public who feel strongly enough to have actively chosen to have joined the group and who are, or have become, Facebook members to do so.

To put that into context, the number is far more than the total of every single signature on the fifty most popular petitions on the official 10 Downing Street website (which, at the time of writing, total 543,590 signatures).

Did anyone notice the issue being raised at Prime Minister's Questions? No? Thought not.

Quite remarkable.
