PMQs: 10th February 2010
Brown vs. Cameron
Pathetic. Cameron asked very specific questions repeatedly about care policy, costing and £20,000 levies. Cameron kept talking about objections from even members of the Labour party, yet Brown would only talk about David Cameron and the Conservatives.
Our verdict: Cameron victory - Brown merely contemptible.
Brown vs. Clegg
Compensation for wounded soldiers, followed by a question on basic pay for troops on the frontline. Brown spoke of being 'determined' to pay our troops decent wages and pointed out that troops do not have to pay Council Tax while fighting in Afghanistan. Whoopee doo!
Our verdict: Clegg victory - the line about Council Tax from Brown was just laughable... or at least it would be, if it wasn't a worrying indicator of a very bizarre attitude towards those who put their lives on the line in the name of our country.
Backbenchers
Douglas Carswell (Conservative) asked for reassurance that UK taxpayers money would not be used to bail out financially struggling Eurozone member Greece in any circumstances. Good on you, Douglas! Shame we didn't understand what on earth it was Brown waffled out as an answer, but there you go.
Gisela Stuart (Labour) went back for the same question, obviously as clueless as to the first answer as this blogger. Did Gordon answer the very specific question on the second go? Still no wiser...
This might be called 'Prime Minister's Questions' but unless the Prime Minister of the day can seriously start answering the damned things, we could save a lot of taxpayer's money by cancelling the damned session and making MPs do something more useful for half-an-hour.
