Conservatives start trying to nab a bit of UKIP's 'Save the Great British Pub' action

UKIP has, for quite a while now, been somewhat unique in highlighting the plight of that centrepiece of the British community heartbeat - the Great British Pub.

On the Conservative Party's website, they are exposing new Labour proposed taxes which will hit the British pub industry at a time when - as the Conservatives reveal - "figures show that a net 3,690 local pubs have closed under Labour, according to official records held by tax inspectors".

Shadow Housing Minister Grant Shapps is quoted on the Conservative website as saying: "Only Conservatives will stand up for the local community pub".

This is obviously not true - given the huge and prominent focus that UKIP has dedicated to the issue.

Additionally, the Conservative news page does not detail what the Conservatives would do to help the local community pub.

However, those visiting UKIP's website and looking through their policy documents will find that the party has a whole range of sensible policies outlined to help the British pub get back onto it's feet.

So, a question for the Conservatives - would you join UKIP in supporting a partial reversal of the ban on smoking, allowing the choice of business owners and customers in premises suitable for appropriate ventilation..?

If not, what else will you do to support the Great British Pub?
