As what will no doubt be the first of much election related literature was posted through the letterbox of the clock tower today, we thought we'd start off a new series examining the worst.
Today, it's the Conservatives.
The letter that arrived - and it was a 'letter', sent using the postal system - was opened and the first thing we see is a picture of David Cameron's head and shoulders poking out from between the backs of two police officers.
Just below it is the slogan: 'It's Time To Fight Back Against Crime'.
How unfortunate. The choice of that image alongside that slogan creates the impression that one of the ways to fight back against crime is to nick David Cameron.
They can't have wanted to create that impression. But that's what this blogger's mind instantly conjured up as a result of that image and text.
Who is advising these people?
The letter itself... blah blah blah blah... "We urgently need to put an end to early release and bring in honest sentencing.." - oops, didn't New Labour somewhat preempt that one a week ago?
Yadda yadda yadda... crime crime crime.
There's then a little leaflet which tells us how bad crime is.
Further, there's a little survey where those with nothing better to do are asked to tick a few boxes and tell the Conservatives how bad crime is and how infrequently we see a cop.
Message - we're not going to do anything about civil liberties. We're going to bother everyone even more. We're going to flood the streets with policemen to the level that every citizen must be accompanied by a police officer when out in public.
Good grief.
This election literature is just appalling.
Wrong image, wrong policy area, far bigger things facing the country than crime - which would often be an election 'banker' but not at this election.
If the Conservatives want to spend any more money sending us more election literature, we hope they'll tackle:
Civil liberties
National Sovereignty
The democratic deficit
The economy
Crime? Ahhh, there's footage of the House of Commons on the TV screen as we write. And we all know that there are MPs of all political persuasions who have got away with fiddling that would have caused we, the people no end of grief.
We, the people may have even encountered those policemen seen flanking David Cameron referred to a moment a go... one rule for the public, another set of rules entirely for the politicians.
