The Independent: Iraq was in pipeline BEFORE 9/11
The war in Afghanistan, the war in Iraq...
...the domestic war on our civil liberties...
All down to the horrendous events of September 11th, we are told.
Ahh, but not according to a document which The Independent newspaper is reporting detail of today.
According to the document the newspaper has seen, they were talking of using the military to topple Saddam BEFORE 9/11.
The document in question - from the end of 2000 - also warned that a war on the basis of 'regime change' would be illegal.
Further, the report states that the document was commissioned BEFORE George W. Bush was elected to the White House - so this cannot any longer be fairly linked solely to him.
No conspiracy theory websites needed - here's the report in The Independent.
Now that's what I call journalism. Very well done to the newspaper for uncovering what is really quite sensational.
Should make Brown's trip to Chilcot interesting. And, the newspaper speculates, Blair may well be recalled.
..especially as the public will now be wondering what it all means.
