Osborne on EU: A Bluer Shade of Blair?
But which quote is attributed to which person?
Quote A. "The rebate is fully justified. Without it, the UK would be paying a net contribution twice as much as France. The real issue is reform of a budget where 40 per cent goes on the Common Agricultural Policy."
Quote B. "We can't discuss the British rebate unless we discuss the whole of the financing of the EU, including that 40% of the budget goes on agriculture which employs only 5% of the people. We are happy to have this discussion but it's got to be on a realistic basis and it cannot be on a basis that ignores the unfairness that gave rise to the British rebate."
Worked out who said which yet? Difficult. They are almost identical.
Quote A came today from Osborne, Quote B came in June 2005 from Blair.
One would be forgiven for thinking that, with such identikit words and phrases, both Blair and Osborne are puppets of the same puppeteer.
Though oddly, no matter the words from our politicians, the end result is always the same - Britain gets shafted.
