Conservatives to ban EU-sceptics from supermarkets and swimming pools...

...well, not quite.

However, while I appreciate that it's somewhat distasteful of me to invoke Pastor Martin Niemöller in order to defend the BNP, it seems that such ironies might be lost on Education Secretary Michael Gove who seems to think he's been elected as part of the totalitarian Labour Government that we just got rid of.

So, in tribute to yet another Conservative Party idiot...

"First they came for the racists
And I did not speak up because I wasn't a racist
Then they came for the EU-sceptics
And that's where I got well and truly buggered..."

Give me strength. The lunatics, controlling totalitarians, the thought police and the traitors are everywhere.

  1. Judging by the comments, not even the Guardianistas are buying this one, and several are thinking along the same lines.

And to think, the Tories probably thought it'd garner them some respec' from such a crowd.

  2. Hi CS, I hope you're well and as happy as can be...

Yes, I noticed that the comments - and particularly the recommendations - were heading in a surprising direction considering that it is The Guardian.

I was going to mention it in the original blog post but thought best to wait and see if the trending continued before assuming the early patterns were indicative.

I think one of the main things I'm spotting this week is that there are a great many of us - Guardianistas, Daily Mail readers, Conservative bloggers, libertarians - as people, putting tribal masts to one side, who are forming a far bigger pool of consensus about the way things are heading than might normally be the case.

That the gulf between the politicians and the people is getting so large and that the people are uniting behind ideas and principles is a fascinating seedling that I hope bursts into bloom.

  3. BNP, being generally unpleasant racist nutcases, are an easy target. Sometimes so easy that even generally good MPs give in to the temptation to trumpet their non-racism with populist attacks on them.

I can't stand the BNP. I'm sure you can't either. But I love free speech and free expression even more than I hate the BNP. And anyway, hiding a problem from sight doesn't make it go away.

  4. TTC:

I have to admit, I've lashed out at Daily Mail readers more than once. Probably because they're held up as the stereotype of "right wing" views and they set up anti-mainstream administration viewpoints for a blasting with optimum ease from the right-on socialist/communist types that infest the BBC (amongst others. Murdoch media is no different on balance).

But credit where it's due, I was pleasantly surprised at their reaction to the latest "terror" scare. It's just too much, too soon. Greed eventually breeds stupidity and arrogance, and our establishment and those who lobby and control them have been very greedy indeed.

I am well, thanks. Hope all is well in TTC Towers (OK - I'll drop all this business speak now ;-)). I feel similarly to you - in that politicians have really dug themselves a nice little hole this time. My colleagues are as easily indoctrinated as they come, yet nobody has yet mentioned the imminent threat of Yemeni terror. Or Iran (Islamist-based death sentence coming up). I hope they're quietly learning (God, I sound like such a sanctimonious git).
