All those arguments against giving us a referendum on the EUSSR just died
Just a quick question...
What reason can the political class possibly give us to deny us a referendum on the European Empire now..?
Costs are obviously not a problem...
The people can obviously be trusted...
Those are the old two tired out, clapped out old excuses for denying us a say.
No, the only truth is the one we knew all along.
They know how the British people will respond to any referendum on the EUSSR.
And they don't want to give us a chance.
Don't know why they're worried. We can just make like Ireland and keep on voting until we give them the answer they want.
So, as an initial response?
Democracy? You're having a laugh.
I'll name several more democratic countries, shall I?
Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, North Korea, Egypt, Zimbabwe...
Oh, hang on. They can't be right... we went to war with one or two of those (the ones with oil) in the name of 'democracy' and 'the will of the people'.
So, why are we being given the referendum nobody asked for or wanted?
Why can't we have the referendum we've all been demanding?
Oh, because - on both counts - Nick Clegg will cwy and cwy and cwy and scweam.
But the argument against a referendum on the European Empire just died.
What say we give them until St. George's Day to announce it, then descend on Parliament Square in our hundreds of thousands? Are you with me?
It worked in Egypt.
But then, Egypt is slightly more democratic, eh, Mr. Clegg?

IN ABOUT TWELVE WEEKS WE MAY HAVE A VERY IMPORTANT REFERENDUM. A REFERENDUM ON EU MEMBERSHIP
ReplyDeleteThe” No to AV Campaign” started this week.
The Sun says no, The Mail says no, both say it’s too expensive. Labour mostly say no, conservatives say no and Clegg says he really wanted PR.
The point is that the machinery is in place for a referendum and the Irish “about turn” is proof that an EU referendum can be rigged.
To rig a referendum, first create a problem, or reinvent an old one.
THE VOTES FOR PRISONER’S BILL. An issue abhorrent to the British Public.
The idea of murderers and rapists being able to vote uses extreme examples to make the point, no mention of the prisoner who didn’t pay their TV license.
This issue was around when Cameron lost what should have been a walkover election. He had broken his cast iron promise and knew at this point that the EU membership issue would not go away without a referendum.
An assault on the Court of human rights is underway. Add in the sex offenders register issue to stir it up. I believe Cameron will manipulate anti EU feeling enough to justify adding an EU referendum onto the AV one, at the last moment.
Once the EU referendum is in place, Cameron will win his battle with the Court of Human rights, and fight to keep EU membership.
Cameron needs a snap referendum. Lord Pearson recently asked for a cost analysis of EU membership. It was refused. When they were in power, Labour repeatedly refused such requests. The sums will not add up. The arguments for staying in will not bear lengthy scrutiny.
That's a fascinating scenario you paint, Gillig, and not one outside of the realms of reality either. Is it?
ReplyDeleteWould a snap referendum be possible, given what the Electoral Reform Society were sayng about the AV referendum (that no-one wants)?
It would certainly be fascinating if things were to pan out as you see them possibly doing...
Just a thought? If we are in the eu illegally as everything seems to emphatically confirm this to be a fact, then we do not need the "show" of a referendum to prove our desires to opt out, we merely confirm the illegality then proclaim our intention to leave & walk away! Default on payments and refuse any further encroachment or political inclusion.
ReplyDeleteA representative govt. aka UKIP, could successfully expedite this process.

As you know, reiverdave, you'll get no argument from me on a single point of your comment.
